This position is responsible for oversight of the University’s Data Center, to include design, monitoring, and access control in accordance to industry standards. Ensures and coordinates all preventive maintenance activities for UPS, Generator, and HVAC systems with Facilities and appropriate vendors. Responsible for coordination and support for all UPS’s for both Medical and Danforth Campuses. Participates in the development of University data center standards.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides support for the University’s data centers and Telecom rooms on both the Med and Danforth campus, to include the coordination of all PM activities. Monitors data centers and TR closets for temperature settings, UPS, generator, battery systems, and security access control.
Coordinate the installation and management of server cabinets, electrical power, PDU’s and seismic bracing.
Maintains detailed records of all facility maintenance, repair, and site monitoring; coordinates and schedules all data center preventative maintenance and emergency repairs with vendors and contractors.
Maintains detailed records of data center floor access, SOP’s, CoLo customer list and TR UPS and battery database.
Performs departments’ facilities and spaces quality assurance inspections when requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate’s degree or technical certification in computer science or related field plus 2 years of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Customer Service: Must possess a basic knowledge of computer and network system components and how they interface; must possess an aptitude for patience, professionalism, tactfulness, and empathy; must have the ability to assess the specific needs of the customer and be able to communicate these appropriately; must possess the ability to clearly communicate with clients and team members through written and spoken word
Project Management: Ability to complete a significant piece of a large project
Planning and Organization: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Technical Knowledge: Understands HVAC, UPS and battery, server cabinet and PDU integration; has an understanding of the design and functionality of electrical systems to individual components and of their relationships in the data center and TR closet design; proficient in the operation and relationship of data center hardware and software; ability to understand functional system integration issues; understands technology components to diagnose routine problems; ability to spot trends in reoccurring problems and assist in developing solutions
Technical Solution Development: Ability to implement solutions of medium complexity and follow standard operating procedures
Technical Support: Ability to independently resolve routine and non-routine problems within areas of responsibilities; ability to troubleshoot problems by probing users for information relevant to solving problem; ability to perform limited diagnostics on assigned software and hardware
Consultancy Skills: Ability to communicate with customers to discuss alternative technical solutions
Additional BICSI certifications preferred.
The hiring range for this position is $22.17 - $28.27 per hour.
