Purpose: The Department of Religious Studies at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit Catholic University in Silicon Valley, seeks qualified individuals to teach various religious studies undergraduate courses. Depending upon applicant background and curricular needs of the department, teaching assignments may include a variety of courses at various levels: introductory, intermediate and advanced in the area of Scripture and Tradition. Santa Clara University runs on a quarter system and courses could be in either fall, winter or spring quarter.
Salary: $6,600 per course
Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent. Experience teaching undergraduates is preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities: Duties include but are not limited to the following: 1. Teach a course load not to exceed two courses per quarter or four courses per academic year in a manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting material effectively, as evaluated by department processes. 2. Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared way; 3. Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning outcomes, and providing timely feedback to students; 4. Holding regular weekly office hours on campus; 5. Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline; 6. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses; 7. Fulfilling other instructional or academic duties, such as attending faculty meetings or department special events, as may be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or the Chair of the Department and/or Director of the Graduate Program of Pastoral Ministries.
