Provides specialized cardiovascular care, while maintaining maximum patient safety and comfort. Performs/reviews a baseline patient assessment, and evaluates patient response to diagnostic cardiac procedures. Proficient in the operation and maintenance, as specified by the manufacturer, of all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used for procedures in the specific area of operation.
Minimum Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing) or graduate of a programmatically accredited program in cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) strongly preferred
Minimum Experience Requirements
One year of experience in cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography), preferred
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association
Currently registered as American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or via CCI as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)
Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * ) ■
Performs accurate and thorough echocardiograms as ordered by physician.*
Performs specialized testing using computer assisted devices including, but not limited to TEE, Stress Echo, Pharmacological Stress Echo’s. Cross trained to perform EKG’s, Treadmills, and Holter monitors as needed.*
Maintains and reviews equipment, ensuring proper function and calibration of machines.*
Maintains high skill level through participation in CQI, in services, ongoing education, and attendance at 80% of staff meetings.
Ability to provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.*
Recognizes and promptly acts upon unusual results or patient response by informing primary health care team to ensure patient safety and foster optimal outcomes.*
Must be able to deal with many different personality types, ages and levels of consciousness of patients.*
Must be able to adjust approach based on patient/family level of understanding of test procedure.*
Promptly trouble-shoots and corrects recording instrument malfunction or unusual patient problems that interfere with recordings.*
Independently prioritizes clinical and administrative work and identifies process improvements.*
Process patient and department records ensuring documentations of performed tests in accordance with hospital standards.*
