James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking an Athletics Communication Assistant. The position will run from approximately July 25, 2017 through June 10, 2018.
Duties include but are not limited to: Assisting the Athletics Communication staff with coverage of 18 Division I sports; serving as the primary contact for select sports, most likely to include men's soccer, cross country, track and field and baseball; significant contributions to coverage of football, men's basketball and women's basketball; collaborating with communications and other external relations staff on digital content development related to assigned sports; responsibility for game notes, game programs, website updates and social media content for assigned sports; and ensuring compliance with all relevant institutional, CAA and NCAA rules. Particular emphasis is given to methods for promoting a NCAA Division I sports program in the digital age.
Interested applicants must have some experience (academic year considered) in an intercollegiate or professional sports team's communications office, student assistant or internship experience is acceptable; must possess good writing and editing ability and knowledge of AP writing style; desktop publishing experience, preferably InDesign; as well as, Photoshop; and knowledge of various web software programs, game operations and various Stat Crew statistical programs. Candidates must be highly motivated, energetic and be able to manage a work schedule that includes some weekend work. A bachelor's degree is preferred.
