The Service Center within the Department of Residential Facilities is the 24-hour a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year first point of contact for a facilities management operation that processes over 45,000 Service Requests each year, manages more than 2,000 keys and coordinates response efforts to facilities and crisis incidents across the UMD campus. The Department of Residential Facilities provides maintenance, housekeeping and building security services to over 10,000 residents and staff, including the campus's 48 residence halls, 21 on-campus fraternities and sororities and three campus recreational facilities. The Service Center Assistant Manager supports this fast-paced and dynamic environment through co-supervision of 20+ front-line student staff, role modeling and training staff on excellent customer service standards, and providing detail-oriented administrative management of daily critical Service Center processes and tasks.
Assists with the leadership, development, supervision, hiring and training of 2 part-time student supervisors and 20+ part-time student employees who staff the Service Center. Participates in after-hours oncall management rotation to provide telephone support and guidance, returning to campus when needed to assist with situations or incidents.
Serves as a department expert with the Work Management System, assists with training staff how to use the Service Request system (new system anticipated within the next year.) Works with the part-time student supervisors, Service Center manager, Assistant Director, and other department staff to execute training for Service Center, maintenance and housekeeping staff.
Serves as the primary manager for the Service Center key box, ensuring the safety and security of keys and access to residence hall, office and recreation center spaces. Issues and maintains department-wide cell phone and pagers. Maintains the inventory of Service Center supplies, equipment and materials. Assists with the semi-annual scheduling of maintenance and upkeep for some department vehicles.
Reviews each day's work (Service Requests, key slips, audits, etc.) to assure part-time student supervisors are appropriately involved with resolving their staff's performance issues. Provides coaching for Desk Associates as needed.
Other duties as necessary and assigned.
Qualifications: Requirements include a bachelor's degree, and a minimum of two years full-time work experience in a management/administrative position. Excellent communication, problem solving, writing, customer service, and organization skills required. Valid driver's license with less than six (6) points required. Experience training and supervising a part-time or undergraduate student workforce desired. Preferred: Experience in higher education working with and providing services for college students, and experience in coordinating administrative operations for a facilities management, campus housing, or related service provider.
Benefits: Salary commensurate with experience, to the low $50s.
