The employer relations assistant is a key member of the career services office. The employer relations assistant's main purpose is to maintain and develop effective relationships with employers and coordinate recruiting programs and activities. The position is essential to providing continued quality service to Salem State University's new and existing employer relationships. As the front-line employer relations contact, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and time management skills are required to coordinate employer relations initiatives. Technical knowledge and the ability to develop and maintain appropriate systems and databases to support office operations are necessary. The successful candidate is able to act independently by taking initiative and demonstrating proactive approach in order to manage critical components of the employer relations program success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Establishes and cultivates relationships with targeted employers, including advising the organizations on strategies for successful branding and recruiting at Salem State University in order to increase the recruitment and hiring of Salem State students
Coordinates employer recruitment programs (e.g., on-campus interviewing, panels, site visits and other programs related to career development), including promoting and marketing to students, scheduling employer recruiting dates, student interview schedules and monitoring the progress
Coordinates and oversees all facets of the annual career fair, including logistics, communications, registration and marketing. Conduct ongoing assessment and provide feedback as to the effectiveness of the career fair
Manages the employer relations communication process, including sending out confirmation letters, coordinating logistics such as parking and handling any special requests in order to ensure employer satisfaction
Maintains master calendar of recruiting schedules and work with appropriate internal partners to coordinate any additional needs of recruiters, availability of space, and/or class/work schedules of the students
Manages and continuously update employer relationship management database
Assists in the compilation and reporting of data on employer relations activities, tracking job-offer data, and hiring results for students in various academic majors
Assists in the development of employer marketing materials, including website and social media content, composing content and coordinating timing of communications to employers
Represents the university and career services at a variety of recruitment events held on and off campus, including recruiting visits to employer sites and employer panels
Oversees employer relations graduate fellow and intern(s) associated with the employer relations functions
Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed
1-3 years of related work experience in a university career services or corporate recruiting environment. The ideal candidate will possess experience with college recruiting, from a higher education or a business perspective
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of internal and external constituents including students, employers, alumni, faculty, and staff
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team
Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills, including excellent verbal and written communications with an ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals comfortably and appropriately
Familiarity with campus career management systems, social media channels and a high degree of comfort with using technology to communicate and share information
Ability to access and prioritize daily functions and long term projects, including prioritizing employer inquiries based on importance
Ability to multitask, exceptional time management and organizational skills are a must for success
Work on some nights and weekends during recruiting season
Experience with managing events and programs
Experience with online recruiting platforms (e.g. Handshake, GradLeaders) and HTML
