The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities seeks an individual with a strong commitment to Christian higher education to help promote the public policy positions of the CCCU. The CCCU’s primary policy portfolio consists of issues of religious liberty and institutional autonomy; higher education and student aid policy; tax policy affecting higher education and the non-profit sector generally. The CCCU also supports other policy positions that have broad support within the Christian or higher education communities. Ideally candidates will have familiarity with some of these issues, but all applicants must have a desire and willingness to learn about these and other issues that could develop. Candidates are advised to review the CCCU’s website to learn more about the CCCU’s public policy positions. Candidates who reach the interview stage will be expected to have a great deal of familiarity with the positions of the CCCU during the interview and be able to articulate a cogent rationale for the positions.

Assist the President and Vice President for Government & External Relations in forming, maintaining and furthering relationships with key constituents in the higher education community
Assist in developing the government relations strategy for the CCCU
Maintain a portfolio of public policy issues and be responsible for communicating all relevant updates with the Vice President and for suggesting strategic approaches to furthering the interest of CCCU institutions
Conduct research and legal and public policy topics and write supporting materials and briefs on policies and issues of import to the CCCU Assist in developing the government relations strategy for the CCCU
Conduct meetings on Capitol Hill with legislative offices to further CCCU legislative agenda
Facilitate and coordinate communication between the CCCU, constituents at member colleges and universities, and key government and other external stakeholders
Attend external events and briefings, as needed
Contribute to the strategic plan for messaging and mobilizing on issues of import to the CCCU
Prepare communications for internal CCCU membership distribution on relevant issues
Manage constituent engagement efforts such as fly-ins or the “Hill Day” during DC-based conferences
Assist the President and Vice President for Government & External Relations in preparing speeches and presentations given to member institutions and the public
Oversee the administrative functions and organization of the Government Relations Office
Manage constituent inquiries
Assist the Vice President with travel arrangements and calendar
Other duties as assigned
Affirm the Nicene creed and the CCCU’s employee handbook, have a commitment to Christ-centered higher education, and believe in the Christian mission and purpose of the CCCU
Substantial policy experience that includes a blend of advocacy and content expertise (at least 3 years in a similar role). Familiarity with higher education policy and/or religious liberty will be a strong asset in this position.
Strong familiarity with Christian Higher Education
A strong track record of taking ownership over issue portfolios, doing relevant background research as well as researching ongoing developments, exercising excellent judgement regarding communicating with senior leadership about relevant developments, and contributing leadership to forming strategy regarding each issue.
Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to "manage by influence"
High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
Self-starter, able to work independently but also collaboratively with a team
