Farella Braun + Martel LLP is a premier 125-attorney San Francisco law firm. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Financial Systems Administrator to join our Accounting Department. The Financial Systems Administrator reports to the Controller and supervises the Financial Systems Applications Developer.
BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for the design, development, support and management of the firm’s accounting and business intake databases and related applications. Responsible for report writing for the Firm’s intranet and the automated data exchange among accounting and business intake databases and other databases throughout the Firm. Provides supervision to the Financial Systems Applications Developer. Responsible for accounting and business intake system project management, in collaboration with the IT Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
Primary resource for analysis, development, management, and maintenance of the firm’s accounting and new business software and related applications (including Expert, ARCS, conflicts software, K2 and PreBill Viewer.) Makes recommendations and works with Accounting Management and IT Department to ensure continuous improvement and enhanced performance of the applications.
Designs, creates and maintains custom programming for accounting and new business database applications.
Manages upgrades for accounting and new business applications, including research, testing, documentation and implementation. Makes appropriate adjustments to customizations and linked databases. Researches, obtains and installs patches and updates to keep the financial and new business applications current and reliable. Monitors database logs, develops SQL scripts and stored procedures to improve processes; creates and monitors SSIS packages for data exchange.
Supervises the Financial Systems Applications Developer, providing training, direction, and performance management. Prepares annual reviews. Oversees day-to-day operations regarding the support and management of the firm’s accounting and new business systems. Conducts regular meetings with the Financial Systems Applications. Promotes an environment that fosters productivity, teamwork, quality service, open communication and high morale. Coordinates personnel issues with the Director of Human Resources.
Interfaces with IT regarding shared data from accounting and new business applications with other Firm applications. Attends IT Department meetings and meets with the CIO and/or Firm DBA/Programmer as requested to facilitate the exchange of information related to projects and planning for firm-wide accounting or new business projects that will require IT support as well as promoting essential help desk support to accounting and new business systems.
Provides end users with access to accounting and new business information in database systems. Designs and creates database reports using firm’s reporting tools, including SSRS, and advanced SQL queries. Publishes reports via intranet. Manages, develops and maintains aspects of accounting and new business data extracts to the firm intranet and other firm systems in collaboration with IT.
Develops and manages cost recovery systems to extract cost data from various sources and transfer to accounting database.
Manages all back-end requirements for Alerts, Report Center, Cost Recovery, Expert Image and publishing reports.
Designs, develops, and maintains forms and workflow systems.
Develops and maintains documentation and procedural standards relating to all routine system support and projects, including SQL databases, intranet, web applications, and custom programming.
Develops security protocols and establishes system structure for security rights.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: Bachelor’s Degree and/or advanced technical training preferred.
Experience: Equivalent experience preferably in a law firm.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership, supervisory and team building sills.
Thorough back-end and solid front-end Aderant Expert knowledge with programming and other functional abilities.
Knowledge of and experience with most or all of the following languages and applications: Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2010/2008R2, SQL Reporting Services, SQL Integration Services, Powershell, Microsoft Visual Studio, and other tools selected by the firm for similar purposes. Able and willing to learn new programming languages and applications.
Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office SharePoint and Handshake.
Able to independently create, modify and trouble-shoot database programs and reports.
Project management and project leadership skill to effectively organize and move projects forward on time.
Current knowledge of technology developments relevant to law firm operation. Must possess a clear understanding of law firm practice and operations and end-user needs, with emphasis on accounting and new business practices.
Able to manage multiple priorities, follow through on requests, set priorities, and manage time to ensure work is timely and efficiently completed. Able to assume new tasks and responsibilities, and to maintain and update knowledge and skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Able to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with end-users, peers, management, and outside business partners.
