General Statement of Duties: The Director of Retention is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and outcomes of a comprehensive retention plan. The Director employs knowledge of current retention management practices and strategies and works with university partners in the implementation of those practices. The Director ensures that appropriate retention programming supports the university's Strategic Plan and Enrollment Management Plan. The Director of Retention provides overall leadership in the areas of student success and retention, and acts as a member of the Enrollment Management Team which includes the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Registrar, the Director of Admissions, the Director of Financial Aid, and the Marketing Director.

(E) Provide leadership in the development and implementation of strategies for increasing retention and graduation rates as well as student, staff, and faculty participation in retention programs. 2. (E) Enhance the university's academic early alert/intervention program, Starfish, maximizing student, staff, and faculty participation. 3. (E) Design and perform assessment studies to determine the effectiveness, performance and future directions of programs designed to increase student retention and graduation rates. 4. (E) Co-chair the Retention Sub-committee of the university's Enrollment Management Committee, which conducts research on retention-related issues, develops areas of focus in conjunction with committee members, and converts findings into initiatives for action. 5. (E) In collaboration with Enrollment Team members and the Assistant Dean of Academic Services, develop innovative retention programming such as, transfer support and advising services, summer bridge programs, expanded tutorial programming and supplemental instruction, professional development for faculty, informational initiatives to inform students about advising, programming to encourage the success of students from diverse backgrounds, and other services. 6. (E) Hire, train, direct, and evaluate part-time assistant(s) for student outreach and other projects. 7. (E) Coordinate the university's efforts with Ruffalo Noel-Levitz to measure and predict student success. 8. (E) Coordinate the WSU Student Success Coach program. 9. (E) Work with representatives in the Office of the Registrar, Academic Success Center, Academic Affairs, Residential Life, Student Accessibility Services, and others to monitor student cohorts' success rates, and intervene to encourage student-level retention and graduation success. 10. (E) In consultation with Institutional Research and Information Technology, develop and maintain reports needed to provide real-time and historical information about student success, persistence, retention, and graduation. Present such reports and other related findings and information to various on-campus populations on a regular basis. 11. (E) Foster appropriate working relationships with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to provide student support. 12. (E) Maintain current knowledge of university policies and procedures; keep abreast of national trends in higher education; and remain current in the field of retention and student success. 13. Supervise and coordinate work for university switchboard phone operators. 14. Identify areas of needed change that would increase student retention. 15. Demonstrate civility and professional behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students. 16. Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan. 17.
