Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Patient Accounting Specialist is a valuable member of our team, who provides administrative and executive support and has the ability to interface with all levels of management throughout the hospital. Duties of a TH Patient Accounting Specialist in the Business Office may include the following but are not limited to: Brief Description of Duties: Act in the role of Governmental Billing Supervisor, supervise staff members, train, evaluate and discipline staff. Perform monthly audits of outstanding claims not billed. Work closely with the Patient Access area to improve the correctness of information received. Work closely with Health Information Management staff for compliant billing. Attend all seminars and teleconferences in the realm of Governmental Billing. Ability to work with other departments to resolve issues that affect billing. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree plus four year's experience in a hospital billing office with a minimum of two years in a supervisory role or in lieu of a degree, ten year's experience in a hospital billing office. Proficiency in software packages, i.e., database packages, spreadsheets and word processing applications. Excellent oral, written and highly developed interpersonal interaction communication skills are essential. Interface with appropriate University offices, agencies and outside agencies to collect information to fulfill the A/R. Knowledge of Siemens systems, HIPPA, Compliance and Government regulations as they pertain to a hospital billing office. Preferred Qualifications: In depth knowledge of Governmental Billing in a hospital business office. Experience with Claims Scrubber & Omnipro, Supervisory experience, customer service, remittances. HC Compliance training. Kowledge of Cost OUtliers, SNF and Benefits Exhausted Billing. Must be able to handle several tasks simultaneously.
