Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice President for Student Health Services (AVPSHS) provides strategic leadership and vision for developing a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to student health and wellbeing for a growing and diverse student population, including oversight of and leadership for the Thielen Student Health Center, Student Counseling Service, Student Wellness Office and Recreation Services. The AVPSHS is responsible for long-term planning, facilities/space planning, advocating for resources and identifying efficiencies within and across departments; evaluating health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services that address the needs of the student community; and serves a critical role in student advocacy, staff development, strategic planning and campus culture. The AVPSHS serves as the principal advisor to the Senior Vice President on student health matters. The Health Services Departments employ over 144 professional and support staff, 700+ student employees and are responsible for budgets of approximately $27 million.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree and 10 years of related experience; OR a Master's degree and 8 years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. or other professional degree and 5 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
A Doctorate or Master's degree in the field of health, counseling, wellness, recreation, student life administration, higher education or a related field, plus professional experience in the health, counseling, wellness or recreation field are preferred. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated knowledge of healthcare financing and business management, ethics and regulations in healthcare, and public health threat management; experience with crisis management and emergency response; demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, student success, student learning and development; and a strong understanding of and experience with the multidimensional aspects of health and wellbeing for college students.
This position serves at the pleasure of university administration and is exempt from certain P&S policies.
Occasional on-call and weekend work may be necessary.
