This position assists with developing and implementing strategic initiatives for the benefits program. Directs the administration of the university’s benefits operations to ensure compliance with university policy, applicable insurance contracts, and Federal and DC laws. Provides direction and leadership in the promotion of an efficient, professional, and service-oriented environment.
This position allows for the ongoing opportunity to positively impact employee’s lives. This position offers much variety in daily and weekly work activities, has a high daily time percentage devoted to employee interaction and problem-solving, and is fast paced. The position interacts with 15 vendors and oversees the administration and reconciliation of the university’s benefit plans (retirement, medical, dental, life, disability, flexible spending accounts, group legal, long term care, group auto and home) totaling nearly $40 million annually and covering approximately 4,000 full-time and part-time, active and retired faculty/staff.

Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred.
10 years of progressively responsible experience in benefits administration
Essential to this position is expert knowledge in federal and state regulations pertaining to benefits administration including federal Medicare regulations
Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary
Must be able to manage priorities, coach staff, and work under tight deadlines
Strong customer service, problem-solving and analytical thinking, attention to detail, planning and organizing and interpersonal skills are required for this position
Proficiency with Windows based applications, such as MS Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software
CEBS certification or other benefit certification(s) is highly desirable
