The University of California, Santa Cruz seeks a dedicated Assistant Director to administer its new Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning (CITL), located in Santa Cruz, CA. CITL supports the UCSC instructional community by offering programs and services to enrich teaching, towards the end of benefiting student learning.
The Assistant Director will report directly to the Director of CITL and work in collaboration with the Director and other campus units to develop, promote, deliver, and assess Center programs and services. The Assistant Director will be responsible for day-to-day operations, including the documentation and assessment of Center programs and services, culminating in an annual report; mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate interns, providing them with opportunities for academic and professional growth; and advise faculty who seek assistance in meeting teaching and learning objectives, through individual advising. The Assistant Director will cultivate support for the Center's mission through pursuit of grants and fundraising.
The Center works in conjunction with the Committee on Teaching and the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs to train and support campus educators and to improve student learning. It supports the campus educational mission by providing access to resources for teaching excellence and pedagogical innovation to all instructors, including Senate faculty, lecturers, and graduate teaching assistants and instructors. The Center (1) develops, curates, and maintains readily accessible resources dedicated to excellence in teaching, (2) aids faculty and Teaching Assistants (TA's) by providing resources, networking opportunities, and general teaching assistance and consultation, (3) facilitates inquiry into teaching excellence through assessment of student learning and faculty development, (4) assists faculty in incorporating innovative technology into their pedagogy, (5) assists faculty in developing courses by identifying desired learning outcomes and designing the course to achieve those outcomes, (6) provides classroom cultural competency training, and (7) creates opportunities to develop communities of practice dedicated to excellence in teaching through peer-to-peer interactions, organizing workshops and other events.
The Assistant Director is expected to model the UCSC Principles of Community in interactions with faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced training and development professional to resolve a wide range of training issues and needs assessments. Develops new training programs, and works on complex training courses of diverse scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering training and development programs.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work may impact other areas.
Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong presentation skills.
Thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
