Disabilities commonly affect the accessibility of core teaching and learning tools in an educational setting. This position provides leadership in accessible media production by advising students and facilitating direct services for students with disabilities. Accessible media includes: text materials rendered in electronic, audio, large print and Braille; tactile maps, diagrams and 3D models; video captioning and description; and classroom presentation accessibility via implementations of technology. The position includes responsibility for innovation in, and daily operation of, services in a leading program of media accessibility, growing student fluency with access technology, and timely production and delivery of accessible materials.
Advise students with disabilities toward greater independence in accessing and generating accessible versions of course-related educational media with focus on promoting academic progress and a lifetime ability to independently access media; Lead a comprehensive program of student and volunteer training to prepare qualified producers of accessible media; Lead and partner on initiatives that increase awareness and accessibility in educational media produced at MSU; Expand capacity and quality of existing RCPD alternative format services meeting current and anticipated demand and, where possible, generating revenue from cooperative ventures with other institutions needing or producing similar media; Implement technologies and partnerships to increase availability and efficiency in accessible media production; Establish program performance metrics, assess and refine programmatic components ensuring optimal user experience, production quality and capacity within the RCPD alternative format/accessible media services program; Document and disseminate MSU knowledge related to accessible media furthering MSU leadership; Review curricular materials and develop access solutions that make printed academic materials available to those who cannot see, read, or otherwise physically manipulate the standard materials; Acquire, scan and edit materials using software and hardware solutions that can render needed output formats (Braille, tactile, large print, audio and electronic); Emboss, print and otherwise render academic materials in final formats usable by persons with print-related disabilities using a range of tools at the RCPD; Review, refine and package/store materials in a manner that makes them optimally useful by students and retainable for future use; Partner with the specialist for deaf and hard of hearing and real-time captioners to assist with coordination of efforts around captioning and American Sign Language; Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred in areas related to Special Education, media production, or educational/assistive technology; Extensive working knowledge of assistive technology and its role in facilitating full participation by persons with disabilities in learning and work environments with a special focus on access to textbooks by persons with sensory, physical or learning disabilities; Extensive knowledge of information storage and retrieval via computer technology; Excellent written communication skills and ability to produce concise written documentation, manuals, reports, and training materials; Strong oral communication skills including group presentations and training seminars; Strong collaborative/team skills balanced by an ability to operate independently with minimal prompting; Strong analytical skills with corresponding ability to develop, document, and evaluate processes and use performance data to optimize outcomes.
Desired degree in special education, media production, or educational/assistive technology. Ability to read/write Braille is highly preferred. Awareness of tactile graphics, 3-D printing, and related technologies is preferred.
