La Casa Norte’s mission and philosophy of service is to impact the social issues of homelessness at the individual and community levels. La Casa Norte’s (LCN) Housing Advocacy Program provides bilingual case management, housing location, and income support services to families who have an open child welfare case and are homeless or at-risk. Our services focus on helping obtain stable housing and avoid family separation.
This is a Part Time position working 28 hours per week.
Expected Goals and Objectives
To provide case management services and access to cash assistance to families who are involved with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and who are experiencing a housing crisis
Working in partnership with Housing Advocates and clients to assess all barriers to safe, stable, and affordable housing, and to identify steps needed to address these barriers.
Within LCN’s philosophy of service, including Harm Reduction and Trauma Informed frameworks, support clients in making positive changes according to each client’s individualized service plan.
Supporting Housing Advocates in connecting families to housing, employment, education, and community resources.
Conducting landlord outreach through Chicago and outlying suburbs to identify potential housing units that meet the needs of client families.
Researching community resources (healthcare, employment training, children’s services, food pantries, etc) in order to provide appropriate referrals to clients.
Assist Housing Advocates by conducting home visits, dropping off bus cards and other resources, and contacting clients with job and housing leads.
Making follow up calls to clients and DCFS case workers and documenting the results.Providing support to clients in the community through providing apartment inspections, home visits, and accompanying clients to appointments when appropriate.
Accurately tracking and documenting all services provided.
Meets weekly billing and documentation requirements as outlined by manager. Must meet weekly billing quota.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all La Casa Norte employees are responsible for contributing to the overall success of La Casa Norte by:
Attending monthly staff meetings and other staff trainings.
Participating in La Casa Norte’s fundraising events.
Participating in on- and off-site staff trainings, workshops and outreach events as needed.
Collaborating in a team approach to develop new programs and expand existing services.
Performing other duties as needed.
