The University of Pittsburgh's College of General Studies is seeking a qualified Director of Advising and Student Support. The Director oversees the areas of academic advising, student academic support, and student government. The Director supervises a team of academic advisors, a program assistant, and tutors. The Director is also responsible for the development of comprehensive assessment and planning procedures to regularly assess academic advising, tutoring, and other services; the development of strategic objectives and goals for advising and academic support services in line with the CGS and the Dietrich School of Arts and Science's strategic plans; ensuring the creation and ongoing review of materials describing departmental policies, procedures, and programs, including handbooks, newsletters, manuals, and policy statements; and tracking student retention, persistence, and graduation data for CGS. The Director will also serve as an Academic Advisor for a limited caseload.
This position will report to the Director of the McCarl Center for Nontraditional Student Success and College of General Studies. The Director must have a strong commitment to student service excellence. Knowledge of assessment and retention strategies is preferred. Knowledge and understanding of developmental advising along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a thorough knowledge of university systems, academic procedures, and student concerns is required. Experience working with nontraditional students and supervising staff is preferred. The ability to work in and help to foster a diverse and inclusive educational and work environment is necessary. Good organization and written communication skills, timeliness, cooperation, collaboration, and accuracy are essential.
