This is an expert level position that coordinates and performs all HIM department functions, except coding, and assures a high service level for the department. Provides lead support and coordination of all HIM clerical functions and reports, assists in preparing work schedules. Responsible for training clerical associates. Provides answers to staff regarding release-of-information and HIPAA procedures, represents the hospital in court for subpoenas, conducts ongoing audits to assure quality standards and other designated responsibilities.
• High School Diploma or GED
• Associate Degree preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• 3 years of health information management experience in an acute care setting.
• Experience with the electronic health record (EHR) and health information systems and applications required.
• Knowledge in health care compliance, particularly HIPAA privacy, and confidentiality laws, access and release of information. Demonstrate advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and troubleshooting computer problems.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills.
• Prefer AHIMA credential – RHIT
