This position must establish and adhere to schedules, budgets, and program parameters; status reporting; establishing, monitoring, and enforcing established policies and procedures; administering contracts with outside entities; making staffing assignments to support workload demands; interacting with university, city and state officials, and ensuring compliance with state codes and standards.
The incumbent will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management and provide staff support regarding all physical plant operations. Physical Plant provides support services to both the Monroe Park, Medical College of Virginia Campuses and other remote locations. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, planning, organizing and managing the services of the unit, which includes 24-hour emergency repair, preventive maintenance, zone maintenance, utility services, locksmith services, recycling, roofing, grounds, central mechanical/electrical, highway equipment, general services, housekeeping services, and support shops.
The Director provides overall direction and leadership to the physical plant operations with over 220 employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $42 million. The applicant must also have the skills and knowledge to successfully develop and manage capital projects.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is required. Advanced degree in engineering or business administration is strongly desired.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible managerial and supervisory experience in engineering and/or facilities management in a higher education environment or equivalent large installation is required.
Excellent oral and communication skills, and a strong customer service orientation are required.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Registration as a Professional Engineer is highly preferred.
