Purpose of Position:
Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking applicants for Assistant Athletic Director for Business Affairs to assist the Executive Associate Athletic Director in coordinating all aspects of the Athletic Department's business operation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-preparing and monitoring annual budgets to assure compliance with University, state and NCAA policies;
-monthly reconciliation of all Athletics and foundation accounts;
-processing journal entries, travel vouchers, and purchase transactions;
-administering and reporting on the Special Assistance Fund;
-preparing timely and accurate monthly financial reports;
-preparing the annual NCAA/EADA financial report and NCAA financial audit (Agreed-Upon Procedures);
-performing cost and trend/projection analyses;
-recommending and implementing internal financial controls to prepare annual ARMICS survey;
-conducting routine financial reviews;
-evaluating procedures and recommending improvements;
-facilitating strategic financial planning; and
-supervising business office support staff responsible for all financial transactions of the athletic department.
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or a Bachelor’s degree in other fields with equivalent experience in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
Must possess an advanced degree or training and work experience that equates to an advanced degree.
One to three years of progressive experience in areas of accounting and financial analysis;
Extensive proficiency and experience with Microsoft Excel and working proficiency with other Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Powerpoint, Outlook); and
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Minimum of three years working in a collegiate athletics business environment;
experience in preparing EADA and NCAA athletic financial reports;
Working knowledge of internal audit process and methods to ensure organizational compliance;
Annual budget development process; and
Ticketing system experience, with Spectra Ticketing experience highly preferred.
