This position is responsible for the proper operation, maintenance, supervision, overall administration and continuing development of a specialized professional/educational digital cinema complex. In addition, the position teaches specialized laboratory components to production courses in digital filmmaking with an emphasis on cinematography and editing using Avid Media Composer, ProTools & Adobe After Effects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Management, supervision and administration of production facilities operations.
Coordinate production resources to serve the needs of students, faculty, department and outside clients.
Develop systems for control of equipment, facilities use and appropriate security measures.
Identify, troubleshoot and solve technical issues related to specialized applications, devices, components and general digital cinema production equipment and systems.
Troubleshoot, to the component level, both analog and digital signal paths.
Maintain necessary equipment, supplies and repair parts inventory.
Conceive, develop, distribute, enforce, archive and periodically evaluate policies and procedures for effective and safe use of facility.
o Liaison with university environmental health and safety office to ensure procedures and practices align with university expectations.
Respond to any security breaches and take appropriate measures to minimize future issues.
Routinely consult administrative support staff during all phases of class schedule creation and implementation.
Manage facility budget.
o Research and manage purchases of equipment and supplies.
o Monitor budgets and generate monthly reports.
o Provide counsel on budget projections and allocations.
o Oversee sale or disposal of obsolete or used equipment.
o Create and manage multi-year purchasing plan for production facility.
Ensure equipment and facility are in good working order.
o Routinely perform diagnostic systems analyses.
o Troubleshoot and perform some system and equipment repairs.
o Oversee complex repairs and system upgrades by contractors, as needed.
o Maintain accurate, thorough and up-to-date facilities documentation.
o Facilitate or repair outboard gear.
o Liaison with university offices, as needed.
o Anticipate and address instructional needs.
Manage student teaching assistants.
o Hire, train and supervise assistants for production courses.
Manage 4K update to facility.
o Research potential 4K equipment solutions and make recommendations.
o Manage 4K upgrade; liaison with university offices and external vendors, as needed.2. Laboratory instruction.
Develop appropriate teaching preparations and materials for each lab.
Conduct all scheduled lab meetings.
Closely assist and provide timely feedback to students.
Use appropriate measures of student performance.
Post and maintain regular office hours at times reasonably convenient for students.
Ensure students use equipment properly and safely.
Administer all required lab evaluations.3. Maintain general knowledge of industry trends, direction and aesthetic considerations.
Maintain knowledge of rapidly changing discipline; periodically provide multi-year professional development plan to supervisor.
Incorporate learned information into facility maintenance protocols, instructional plans and future facility development.
Participate in professional associations, venues or coursework, as requested or needed.4. Other duties as assigned.GENERAL GUIDELINES1. Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.

6. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.
7. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.
8. Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

Operational knowledge of professional practices and trends including the use of digital cinema cameras, LED lighting, KinoFlo, HMI and traditional lighting instruments.
Knowledge of professional audio post-production practices and trends using ProTools software.
Expert-level knowledge of professional editing practices and trends using Avid Media Composer, Avid Symphony color correction, Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects.
Knowledge and understanding of aesthetic considerations for the film, video and audio recording arts and industry.
Knowledge of and experience with shared storage editing systems.
Knowledge of and experience with broadcast routers.
Knowledge of Apple and Windows platforms.
Knowledge of Avid Media Composer, ProTools, Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, Illustrator and Filemaker Pro.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors degree in film, video, communication or a similar specialized and technical field.
Three to five years of progressively responsible experience as a senior production manager of a digital video production facility (including all phases of operation and maintenance of digital cinema production gear).
