Job Description: The Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County is searching for our 2017-2018 AmeriCorps VISTA.
The Alliance is dedicated to ending Veteran and chronic homelessness this year. The Alliance is the lead organization in conducting a HUD Point-in-Time Count, which is used to identify a baseline of how many homeless persons are in our community. It will be the VISTA's responsibility to led the execution and organization of the Point-in-Time Count. In addition, the VISTA will help expand the FLOW project, which directly results in improving access to affordable housing in our community. The VISTA will also explore various funding opportunities for the Alliance through grants and foundations by supporting the work of the resource development committee. This position is a part of the Illinois Affordable Housing Support Project (IAHSP). The IAHSP aims to fight poverty and improve the lives of disadvantaged individuals by expanding and improving the availability of decent, affordable, accessible housing in Illinois. As part of the IAHSP VISTA program, members will receive professional development opportunities and gain tremendous experience int he nonprofit sector.

Member Duties: The Special Projects Associate VISTA will:
Organize and execute the 2018 HUD Point-in-Time (PIT) for suburban Cook County
Engage in the final year of the SubCook Zero effort to end Veteran and chronic homelessness
Maintain and expand the organization's resource development objectives
Help expense the FLOW project, a partnership between the Alliance and Housing Authority of Cook County to provide rental assistance to low-income households
Research and build a directory of resources in addition to housing resources from which people at risk of homelessness can benefit.

About Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County
The Alliance strives to eradicate poverty by eliminating homelessness in suburban Cook County through the coordination and maximization of available resources to assist homeless individuals and families, as well as those at risk of becoming homeless. The Alliance coordinates the Cook County Continuum of Care (IL-511), which encompasses homeless assistance efforts throughout all of Cook County exc...ept for the City of Chicago. As the lead agency for suburban Cook County's Continuum of Care, the Alliance brings together a range of services and housing options for homeless people. The Alliance convenes a variety of stakeholders to cooperatively set priorities, collect data, rank project applications, and measure outcomes. In coordinating the annual application to the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for homeless assistance grants, the Alliance brings in approximately $11 per year to support over forty (40) homeless programs in the region.
