Under general direction, supervises, manages and participates in short and long-range airport planning efforts pertaining to: airfield/airspace, facility development, land-use, commercial development, infrastructure, roadways, ground transportation, and studies pertaining to optimizing airport related processes, operations and facilities. Work involves independent application of Airport Planning principles in the development, refinement and implementation of components of the Airport Master Plan, as well as support of the Airport’s Strategic Growth and Business Plan. Provides documentation, as required, for the administration and execution of each project. Additionally, responsible for directing and managing in-house planning studies and overseeing management of consultant planning studies, as well as, representing the Airport on planning related matters. May coordinate projects with, and/or serve as, the Airport liaison to local, state and federal agencies. Becomes familiar with the basics of DFW Airport’s Environmental Management System & Environmental Policy and implements Best Management & Good Housekeeping Practices.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil/Transportation Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.- Five (5) years of professional-level experience in project management of relevance to planning.- Three (3) years experience in a coordinating or lead position.- Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above on a year- for- year basis.- Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES- Knowledge of principles of strategic planning, airport planning, land use planning, ground transportation planning or facility planning.- Knowledge of airport and airline procedures and processes.- Knowledge of project management methods and techniques.- Knowledge of federal, state and local ordinances, codes and regulations relating to airport planning and development.- Ability to manage outside contractors in a manner conducive to the timely and efficient completion of work.- Ability to develop and present oral and written reports on complex issues using good business vocabulary and proper construction.- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and to maintain harmonious internal and external working relationships.- Ability to influence outside contractors to comply with Airport Board rules, regulations and procedures relating to Airport construction projects.- Ability to oversee the work of others and to assess work product.- Ability to obtain Airport Security clearance for AOA access. DESIRABLE- Working knowledge of CADD and GIS applications.- Supervisory experience.- Masters degree in Aviation Planning, Architecture, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning or related field.- Professional certification such as American Institute of Certified Planners or Accredited Airport Executive.- Registration as a professional engineer or architect.
