The Institute of International Finance (IIF) is one of the world’s largest global associations of financial institutions with nearly 500 members in 75 countries. We provide economic and financial analysis to our members, serve as a forum for exchanging views and developing proposals on global regulatory issues; and represent our members from the private financial community in discussions with the public sector on global economic and financial policy issues.
The IIF’s Regulatory Affairs Department focuses on the development and articulation of industry positions on numerous global financial regulatory issues, including: cross-border resolution and related “too big to fail” issues; prudential capital and liquidity requirements; systemic risk regulation, industry risk management and governance practices; cross-border securities regulation; shadow banking; and international convergence on accounting and disclosure standards for the industry.
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Counsel with deep expertise on the US financial regulatory environment to contribute to the IIF’s advocacy activities. The responsibilities of the position include following and analyzing US financial regulatory developments and their impact on global regulatory issues; leading the development of global industry positions on a wide range of challenging banking regulatory issues; spearheading and overseeing the work of a range of high-level industry committees and working groups; analyzing new regulatory initiatives by U.S. bodies such as the Federal Reserve, the Treasury, OCC, FDIC, SEC and CFTC as well as global entities such as the G20 and the FSB, as well as developing position papers, response documents and other analytical pieces in conjunction with a team of policy advisors and analysts; and engaging with U.S. and international policymakers on behalf of the executive leadership at IIF member companies. The position will report to the Managing Director of Regulatory Affairs and it is based in Washington DC.
Successful candidates must have a full command of the U.S. regulatory framework for financial firms, as well as strong technical and analytical skills. Expertise in the areas of bank capital and liquidity as well as cross-border resolution is also highly desired. Also required are: at least ten years of professional experience in a leading law firm, regulatory body, or regulatory consulting firm or directly relevant experience in a bank or related trade association; credibility and capacity to build strong relationships with regulators and executives both domestically and internationally; excellent oral and written communication skills, highly articulate, and fluent in English; and a self-starter who is strongly motivated, proactive, and exercises effective judgment.
