Description The Alyne Queener Massey Law Library at Vanderbilt University seeks a creative, energetic, detail-oriented, and highly customer-oriented librarian to join our team. The Head of Technical Services will manage the Law Library's collections budget as well as acquisitions and serials operations. The person in this position will supervise the Acquisitions Assistant and Serials Assistant. The Head of Technical Services reports to the Associate Director for Library Services. Key Functions and Expected Performances: Management: Work closely with Associate Director for Library Services to manage law library technical services operations. Direct supervisory responsibility for two staff members. Acquisitions: Place orders for books, standing orders, and journal subscriptions. Create bibliographic records and order records in ILS for. Cancel standing orders and subscriptions. Approve invoices for payment. Review statements of accounts from vendors and resolve billing questions and disputes with vendors. Review monthly procurement card transactions for purchase of library materials. Collection Development: Distribute approval books and new book slips to selectors according to subject areas. Compile cost and other information on standing order titles and journal subscriptions for review by the Collection Development Committee as requested. Electronic Resources: Obtain pricing and related information for potential electronic resource purchases. Place orders for new electronic resources and coordinate the execution of license agreements. Work with vendors and local IT staff to resolve access problems. Load and update MARC records in ILS for BNA, CCH, and LLMC electronic resources. Cataloging: Some cataloging of monographs, new serial titles, and serial title changes. Some original cataloging may occasionally be required. Reference and Instruction: Negotiable depending upon qualifications and interest of successful candidate. Preferred Education, Skills, and Experiences: Education/Experience: Minimum Education Required: Master's in Library Science or equivalent. Three years of work experience in library technical services, preferably in a law library. Job Related Skills: Experience with cataloging and records management. Experience with an integrated library system. Familiarity with vendors' online databases for placing orders and managing accounts. Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
