The Department of Pathology currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST 1.
The Keene lab is looking to fill a Research Scientist 1 position focused on supporting neurodegenerative disease research through participation in tissue analysis and research activities within the laboratory. Research will include, but not be limited to, studies of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases as well as the lateneuropathological effects of traumatic brain injury.
The successful applicant will specialize in Histelide and immunoassays. This position requires a strict attention to detail; while working under limited time constraints and/or completing human tissue and cell culture research activities. The successful applicant will coordinate with multiple scientists in the lab to perform assays and/or maintain and expand cells to meet the needs of particular projects for diverse neuropathologic analyses. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity for directed research projects and assisting in the development of novel immunoassays.
Typical duties and responsibilities:
Histelide and immunoassays; perform assays and/or maintain and expand cells to meet the needs of particular projects for diverse neuropathologic analyses.
Direct research projects and assisting in the development of novel immunoassays.
Histelide assays (combination of immunohistochemistry and ELISA), Luminex and ELISA assays, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence histology, cell counting and tissue tracing, and participation/support of tissue analysis protocols.
Collection of data based optimized methodology
Data entry and analysis
Maintain excellent records of data, attend lab meetings and present results
Bachelor's Degree in Molecular/Cellular Biology or an appropriate field of technology or science and enthusiasm to learn new techniques. And one Year or more relevant experience.
Strong interpersonal skills and likes working in team environment contributing to multiple projects and willing to learn new techniques. The successful applicant will interface with members of the lab to determine the best tissue-based assessments of neuropathologic parameters of interest and will assist in collection of data based on optimized methodology. The successful applicant must be able to perform basic Excel data entry and analysis, maintain excellent records of data, attend lab meetings, present results, and interact in a collaborative manner with all other lab members.
At least one year of research experience or one year of full-time post-baccalaureate college in an appropriate field of science or technology. Professional level experience may be substituted, year-for-year, for the formal academic degree. Experience in immunohistochemistry in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections or induced pluripotent stem cell culture is highly desired. Experience with any immunohistology or cell or tissue culture is desired.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
The Research Scientist Engineer 1 is essential to UW Neuropathology rapid autopsy services; this position regularly requires work after-hours, on-call, weekends and or outside normal business hours;
