Our School of Music, has an outstanding opportunity for a 50%, Academic Year, Coordinator of Music Teacher Education .This individual will:
Oversee the UW School of Music teacher education program. In this capacity the position will; 1) direct and coordinate teacher licensure accreditation processes; 2) establish curricula and policies in compliance with state and national guidelines, and; 3) implement innovative and research-based models of music teaching and learning.
Integration of Internal and External Requirements: Based on assessment of both internal degree program needs and state professional preparation requirements, this position will be responsible for ongoing evaluation of multiple music teacher education pathways, establishing curricular and program targets, and communicating with School of Music faculty and administration to implement short- and long-term goals.
Development of Professional Network: Recognizing the vital resource of expert in-service educators as part of the music teacher preparation process, this position will plan and monitor coordinated and innovative pre-service development partnerships that will support university-to-classroom initiatives congruent with current integrated program practices.
Strategic Deployment of Resources: As one multi-faceted area within a larger department, this position will determine resource needs that support program requirements as well as integrate with broader School of Music goals and initiatives. Cross-Unit Collaboration: In addition to internal supervisory responsibilities, this position will function as a bridge between the School of Music, housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Teacher Education Program, housed in the College of Education. As such, this position will be responsible for ensuring alignment of state-mandated teacher licensing requirements and School of Music degree program requirements.
-Maintain knowledge of current state and national policies and guidelines for music teacher preparation and licensure.
-Implement certification and endorsement curricula in compliance with state regulations and national guidelines.
-Develop and implement ongoing curricular revisions and required pre-service experiences with School of Music advisors, staff and faculty.
-Liaise with the UW College of Education, UP Professional Education Advisory Board, Washington Professional Educator Standards Board, Washington Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education and other appropriate bodies to represent UW Music Education area on all aspects of program structure, content, and evaluation.
-Oversee and document student and program assessment at the departmental, campus and state levels.
-Develop and Maintain partnerships with the K-12 teaching community and with professional and community arts organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest.
This position will oversee needs in the areas of curricular compliance, financial resources, instructional personnel, and other program resources as appropriate.
Working collaboratively with the Director, faculty, and staff, this position will be responsible for deploying resources appropriate for program requirements.
This position will manage and oversee personnel charged with student teacher coordination, music techniques instruction, and educational assessment (e.g. edTPA) support.
This position will assess and report effectiveness of these areas and develop policy revisions, structural changes, and programmatic innovations as appropriate.
