The librarian’s overall job goal is to facilitate the acquisition, processing and usage of circulating material through established collection development policies and procedures for the operation of a library program aligned with the EBI mission. Working in conjunction with the Director of Curriculum and Learning and teaching staff, curates a collation appropriate to lower and middle school programs, and demonstrates the use of materials in the library and classrooms. The librarian instills a love of learning and reading in all students and promotes equitable access to information among the entire learning community.
Specific responsibilities include:
Effectively plan the school library program to meet identified needs.
Acquire, process and make accessible a varied collection of resources.
Maintain a Collection Development Policy addressing materials, selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy and acceptable use.
Manage all day-to-day circulatory functions. Create and maintain virtual list of materials assigned to units of study.
Develop and manage a budget for the library including expected purchases and maintenance expenses on existing equipment.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction.
Inform users of library media center materials. Provide staff development and training opportunities in the availability and utilization of library resources.
Promote use of the library by students and staff and support programs for reading, books display, etc.
Train and supervise library volunteers.
Collaborate with the parent association of the school organizing the annually school book fair.
Qualifications and requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or post graduate work in Library and Information Science
Excellent verbal and written communications skills both in English and Spanish.
Preferred IB experience.
Knowledge of current professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs.
Experience with Destiny Follet, or other on-line public access catalog (OPAC).
Experience using academic research databases.
Experience using at least one referencing citation style commonly used in academia

EBI is authorized by the International Baccalaureate to offer the Primary Years Programme. The school offers a Spanish-English dual language program, extending from pre-K through 8th grade.
