The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), with more than 37,000 members residing in 108 countries, is the first and largest organization in the world dedicated to advances in all areas of high-quality, innovative cancer research. Its mission is to prevent and cure all cancers. The programs and activities of the AACR foster the exchange of new knowledge among scientists and physicians in the cancer field as well as in related biomedical sciences. AACR publishes eight peer-reviewed scientific journals and an award-winning magazine for cancer patients and their loved ones; convenes topical scientific conferences and an annual meeting that draws more than 19,400 participants; offers educational workshops that train young investigators in a variety of scientific and clinical areas; funds fellowships, career development awards, and research grants for both senior and junior investigators; raises public awareness of the progress in and reasons for hope in the biology, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer; engages actively in advocacy for increased federal research funding and other national policies that accelerate progress against cancer; and interacts with regulatory agencies to support regulatory science and policy.
The Coordinator supports the administration of the AACR’s Continuing Medical Education program, which includes scientific conferences, workshops, other learning formats, and maintenance of AACR’s accreditation.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
•Working in partnership with the Senior Manager, Office of CME, coordinates initiative and undertakings in the development of live CME activities and other learning formats such as manuscript review, journal and internet CME.
•Assists with the preparation of instructional materials for staff and assists in training meetings. Proofreads and edits written and printed materials.
•Communicates verbally and in writing with faculty, learners, and colleagues regarding CME policies and procedures, Essentials, and Standards for Commercial Support.
•Collects information on financial relationship of over 1,000 individuals participating in CMA activities each year and enters this information in a complex database.
•Obtains scientific abstracts and slide presentations from select groups of speakers to support review process, and tracks disposition of these materials in Excel spreadsheet.
•In collaboration with the staff of the AACR Foundation, maintains chart of commercial supports of CME activities, collects Letters of Agreement, and records required data.
•Assists in logistical organization of CME information, speaker preparation room, signage at activities/events, and prepares and ships CME materials to activity location.
•Processes requests for credit, enters data into membership database, generates and distributes CME award certificates. Prepares transcripts and other reports of CME credit histories and necessary.
•Processes activity evaluations and outcomes measurement tools and supports development of post-activity reports. Maintains Website information.
•Supports CME Committee and Internal Review Committee, schedules meetings and conference calls, prepares documents to support meetings and conference calls, and drafts meetings minutes.
•Maintains CME library by ensuring that permanent documentation files are complete both electronically and in hardcopy format. With the assistance of the senior manager, ensures that CME activities are based on documented practice gaps.
•Supports development and maintenance of AACR CME policies and procedures and works with colleagues and supervisor to secure up to date information.
•Supports the maintenance of ACCME accreditation by maintaining accreditation calendar of deadlines; collecting ACCME required documentation; supports the development of ACCME Progress Reports and Annual Report, and other duties required to maintain accreditation as assigned by the supervisor.
•Stays abreast of new and updated CME information by monitoring the ACCME and Alliance for CME Website, and participates in other educational opportunities as assigned by the supervisor.
•Ensures confidentiality of personal information collected from learners, faculty members, and colleagues for the use of the Office of CME.
•Provides excellent customer service to activity attendees and those who inquire about CME requirements.
•Performs other tasks to support the Office of CME as needed.
•Provides administrative support to the Senior Manager, Office of CME.
•Calculates CME credit hours for attendees.
•Maintains calendar of activities.
•Compiles evaluation data and responses and prepares reports using simple mathematics.
