Reporting to the Provost, Florham Campus, the Associate University Librarian and Director of Public Services administers the public services operations of the Florham Campus Library, including Reference Services, Information Literacy Instruction, Access Services, and Periodicals. The incumbent serves as a voting member of the University Library Steering Committee.
Responsibilities include strategic planning and implementation; budget development and management; staff leadership and problem solving; providing research and instruction services to students, faculty, and staff; assisting users in the use of print and online resources as necessary; supervising an active library instruction and information literacy program; serving as library liaison to academic programs; serving on campus-wide committees; supervising teaching library skills and information literacy; facilitating data collection and reporting of relevant statistics; making policy recommendations; supervising the organization and maintenance of collections; handling reference by appointment requests; managing the hiring, training, and supervision of public services librarians, staff, and student workers.
The incumbent supervises the employees and operations of Research and Instruction, Circulation, Periodicals, and Inter-Library Loan; as well as the Administrative Assistant for the Florham Campus library.
The incumbent partners with the Associate University Librarian for Technical Services in the operation of the Florham Campus Library.
1.ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science/Service; an additional graduate degree preferred.
2.Reference experience in an academic library.
3.Experience in teaching in a classroom setting.
4.Prior supervisory experience.
5.Prior budgetary experience.
6.Strong organizational, leadership and time management skills.
7.Ability to work creatively to make efficiencies.
8.Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and online communication skills.
9.Ability to work with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
10.Wide knowledge of electronic and print reference sources.
11.Awareness of current trends and facility with emerging technologies in the delivery of reference service and library user education. Experience supporting a comprehensive information literacy education program is preferred.
