Witt/Kieffer has been retained to conduct a national search for the next President and Chief Executive Officer of HaysMed in Hays, Kansas.
HaysMed is comprised of a 207-bed acute care facility, the DeBakey Heart Institute, HaysMed Partners, and ownership stake in two regional critical access hospitals. Over the past two decades, HaysMed has made tremendous strides towards its vision of becoming, “The Best Tertiary Care Center in Rural America.” Their recent affiliation with The University of Kansas Health System will enhance the organization’s ability to offer quaternary services close to home and position the local delivery system to be at the forefront of changes in healthcare delivery and financing.
Through its many services, HaysMed cares for patients across the broad geography of Western Kansas. The health system maintains a Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center, Sleep and Neurodiagnostic Services and Robotic Surgery Program. The 207-bed acute care facility provides medical, surgical and pediatric care along with cardiac, neonatal and intensive care units; cancer, joint and spine care; diagnostic imaging and eye surgery center, emergency department and rehabilitation and hospice. The DeBakey Heart Institute provides heart surgery for the western half of the state. HaysMed owns and operates HaysMed Partners, which includes 14 physician offices in the surrounding areas, with 48 employed physicians. HaysMed has expanded services and developed relationships that have led to ownership of two critical access hospitals: Pawnee Valley Hospital in Larned, Kansas and a 50 percent interest in St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, Kansas.
The next President and CEO will succeed Dr. John Jeter, who is retiring after more than twenty years of exceptional service and contributions. The HaysMed Board of Directors is seeking candidates who bring a breadth and depth of experience leading and preparing a growing, complex system for the future. HaysMed is committed to supporting healthcare as a component of rural life by combining tertiary services in a rural delivery system, using primary care physicians, the local hospital and other local providers. The President and CEO will be a value-driven leader who inspires others, and is well-versed in leading and advocating in a time of transformational change. She/he will be given the opportunity to develop relationships across Western Kansas, while also maximizing the new partnership with The University of Kansas Health System. Candidates should have significant senior leadership experience within a hospital and/or health system, with a track record of successful collaboration with the clinical staff. She/he will need to be a visible leader, comfortable engaging with all levels of staff, community leaders and regional partners.
