Geisinger Medical Laboratories is searching for Phlebotomists to join our team in Danville PA. In this role, you will independently perform venipunctures and skin punctures on all age groups, from neonates through adults, to obtain blood specimens, knowledge of processing specimens for analysis, and the ability to utilize the appropriate computer systems to register patients, facilitate billing, accession laboratory specimens, and provide information. Phlebotomists is responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of tasks to provide a specimen of highest analytical quality for testing and accurate information for the Geisinger Health System and Geisinger Medical Laboratories' clients, including performing duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
Phlebotomists are responsible for an interpersonal relationship with the patient who they are meant to collect blood samples from. It's the duty of a phlebotomist to make patients feel relaxed and protected while collecting a blood sample. The ability to explain the blood drawing process to patients and to show a comforting attitude toward patients creates an amiable environment.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all duties and responsibilities of Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant II.
Demonstrates knowledge of and performs venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. Exhibits knowledge of adequate and correct collection requirements. Performs accessioning procedures appropriately and accurately to ensure positive identification of the specimens.
Demonstrates good problem solving skills. Recognizes and resolves discrepancies as appropriate. Evaluates specimen suitability/acceptability. Resolves or refers problems as appropriate.
4. Performs testing and records Point of Care instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control as assigned.
6. Follows established reporting procedures (computerized, verbal, and manual) as appropriate. Records and reports problems and solutions as appropriate.
Navigates and accesses multiple computer applications (including laboratory and hospital computer systems and the internet) as needed.
Knows and abides by the GHS and GML policies and procedures including compliance policies.
Provides phlebotomy coverage as required to Geisinger Medical Group offices, skilled nursing facilities, or performs in-home phlebotomy for homebound patients.
Successful completion of initial and subsequent competency exams required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum 12 months of previous Phlebotomy experience that includes venipuncture, skin puncture, patient preparation and post collection transportation/processing.
Successful completion of a NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences) accredited Phlebotomy Training program.
Valid Pennsylvania Driver's license required. Motor Vehicle Record Check may be required.
