Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Associate Director of Academic Advising and Student Engagement's responsibilities will include providing academic and other counseling to students; working with identity groups and students to develop and implement diversity initiatives and managing the peer mentor program. Evenings, weekend and early morning hours are sometimes required.
Responsibilities: 1.Primarily responsible for working with identity groups and diverse students to address areas of opportunity and concern; develop and implement programs and initiatives with students. Research and develop programs to enhance inclusiveness and diversity. 2.Counsel students on academic issues, including curriculum, scheduling choices and related matters. Work with students and faculty on academic issues related to specific students. Addresses other student issues and concerns and provides guidance to students on these matters. Serves as sounding board for student concerns about law school issues. 3.Manages and creates opportunities for engagement for the Peer Mentor Program. 4.Supports the overall mission of the Office of Student Services; participates as needed in planning and working on various Student Services Office projects.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent; law degree strongly preferred. A minimum of 4-6 years of related experience required; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competencies: -Must possess excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. -Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to relate effectively with a diverse student population. -Demonstrated experience creating and implementing programming to support identity groups and first generation law students. -Computer literacy required. -Must be self-motivated and able to initiate and set goals and prioritize tasks. -Demonstrated interest in student development and ability to work collaboratively with varied constituencies. -Effective collaboration and communication with students, faculty, administrators and external constituents. -Must have excellent judgment and be able to maintain confidentiality. -Must be detail oriented and able to retain organized records.
