Assists anatomic pathologist with animal autopsies. Performs necropsy laboratory procedures including but not limited to: cleaning the necropsy suite, basic dissection, tissue collection/preservation, fresh tissue trimming, sample collection. Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); participates in the documentation of all activities as required. Assists in other areas of Laboratory Services as needed on a daily basis.
Licensed veterinary technician (any state) or associate degree in biological science or related area. Working knowledge of manual dissection procedures, techniques, tissue preservation and biological safety; experience/understanding of medical terminology; proficient use of computer software (MS Office); ability to communicate and work cooperatively with co-workers and general public; ability to perform duties in accordance with SOPs; ability to tolerate rabies prophylaxis. Must be able to safely move and handle items weighing up to 75 lbs.
BS in Biological Science or related area. Experience with animal necropsies or similar procedures; working knowledge of various photographic techniques; experience operating electrical equipment such as electric hoist, hydraulic tables, and band saw.
