The Winston-Salem Symphony seeks an experienced, innovative, inspiring, collaborative, and community-minded leader to craft and implement its artistic and educational vision and mission as it moves into its next chapter in service to the Piedmont Triad region. Qualified candidates will demonstrate exceptional musical, programmatic, technical and leadership talent and will have a minimum of five to ten years of experience creating imaginative programming and conducting professional orchestras in classical, choral, pops and children’s/family repertoire while serving as a Music Director, Assistant, Associate or Resident Conductor.

Competitive salary commensurate with experience
Following successful completion of a 90-day probationary period and in accordance with prevailing employee policies and benefit plans, this position offers a robust benefits package subject to then current plans but likely to include employer-paid medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment insurance premiums, life insurance to one-time annual salary (limit of $100,000); annual paid time off including three weeks of paid vacation, ten paid holidays, up to 6 paid sick days, and 10 paid Family Care days (12 weeks Family Care without pay); complimentary concert access, and more.
The Winston-Salem Symphony (WSS) begins its 71st season in June 2017 as one of the Southeast’s most highly regarded regional per service orchestras. With a budget of $2.6 million, its performance season includes: 6 Classics Series masterworks doubles; 4 Kicked-Back Classics casual masterworks singles; 4 Pops Series singles and 2 performances of Carolina Christmas; 3 Discovery Series Concerts for Kids; 2 performances of Handel’s Messiah; 1 Concert for Community featuring WSS and Youth Symphony musicians performing side-by-side; a free Holiday Concert benefitting the Salvation Army Food Pantry; three youth orchestra ensembles; an Academy of Music & Arts collaboration with The Salvation Army of Winston-Salem that provides after-school instrumental music instruction to under-served youth; and a multitude of educational and community engagement programs.
