Involves planning, developing, and implementing programs, activities, counseling, and advising, focused on students' career development. Works with students, alumni, and/or potential employers.
Maintains relationships with potential employers, school admissions representatives, and other organizations to establish contacts to meet the needs of students. Utilizing a theoretical understanding of career development, supports students and alumni in improving job search competencies. Receives guidance from higher level Career Services Specialists.
The UCSC Career Center is aligned with the Division of Student Success. The mission of the Career Center is to promote the career development and related life planning skills of UC Santa Cruz students and alumni, and to provide access to internships and employment opportunities so students may explore career choices and nurture career goals. The Career Center provides comprehensive campus-wide career services to current undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni. It is the central resource for everything career related from part-time employment and internships, to graduate school or professional employment. Services include career coaching, career and part-time job and internship listings, on-campus interviews, support for networking with alumni and other professionals, a computer laboratory, graduate school application support, workshops, courses, and special events such as the Multicultural Career Conference, the Graduate and Professional School Fair and Job and Internship Fairs.

Underrepresented categories include but are not limited to: race, nationality, gender identity and sexual orientation.
Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with business leaders, governmental officials, elected officials, University faculty, staff, and students.
Demonstrated work experience in a public relations setting; identifying, analyzing and creating marketing and promotional activities and opportunities. Ability to plan and execute all aspects of a marketing campaign, outreach efforts, program publicity, and promotional activities.
Basic knowledge of career development theories and job search techniques.
Excellent writing skills with the ability to compose creative, concise directed copy, which is both informative and accurate.
Ability to work with people from diverse cultures. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and sensitivity sufficient to establish rapport, advocate for, and design programming for vulnerable student populations.
