The Lawrence Hall of Science, UC Berkeley?s Public Science Center, is seeking a creative and dynamic Art Director to design, produce, and manage the majority of the digital and print materials emanating from the Hall.
The position creates or manages projects across a wide range of applications from initial concept through to final digital and print formats. Digital media includes the Hall website, digital display advertising, electronic newsletters, digital billboards, and design support for Hall social media, exhibitions, videos, and apps. Print design projects include science center collateral such as brochures, booklets, letterhead, presentations, invitations, marketing and fundraising materials, as well as signage for display on the exhibit floor, and labels for exhibits and programmatic materials. The position works closely with program managers and Hall leadership to understand communication needs, determine appropriate media, and create strong, cost-effective visual materials that clearly and effectively communicate ideas and information. As a key leader on the Hall marketing and communications team, the position oversees brand management, making sure all materials seen by the public adhere to the Hall brand, managing the look and feel of Hall-branded communications materials including electronic assets. As appropriate, the position will create designs that incorporate both the Hall brand and the UC Berkeley brand and may create program specific logos or other aspects of visual identity for educational materials, apps, exhibits, and related items including promotional materials, making sure Hall brand is reflected in final designs.?Advanced design, creative and artistic skills. ?Expert knowledge and technical skills in Adobe Creative Suite. ?Advanced knowledge of production processes for a variety of media and knowledge of vendor requirements for a variety of products. ?Advanced skills to devise broad design ideas, present them to departmental clients, and produce results on time and within budget. ?Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. ?Advanced interpersonal communications skills, including active listening skills and skills to work effectively within teams and to effectively provide advanced design advice and consultation to clients on all aspects of visual communications. ?Critical thinking skills, advanced organizational skills and proactive problem-solving/problem resolution skills. ?Ability to lead and mentor others in the department. ?Bachelor?s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience.
