The job encompasses the preparation of artwork; the design of publications, web design and presentation materials; and the necessary integration with other groups within the unit to provide a finished product to the scientific community.
Ã¯ Conceptualize and design artwork for a broad range of clients under minimum direction, as well as publications and printed materials. Take responsibility for assigned projects, so that all schedules and deadlines are met. Ã¯ Website design and update content to include the design of user interface and user experience, from a best-practices and current web standards standpoint. Other design responsibilities include, but are not limited to: brochures, magazines, newsletters, packaging, displays and posters. Within the scheduled and budgeted time, use appropriate methods. Ã¯ Interact professionally with other departments, group leaders, designers, illustrators, editors, technicians, photographers, clients and vendors to accomplish specific projects in an effective manner by clearly communicating knowledgeable and reliable information. Ã¯ Maintain schedules of all assignments. Update schedules through the life of the project, so that the Program Manager can see what stage the project is in at any time. Ã¯ Assist with the administrative processes associated with the Nanoscience Research Program and Kavli ENSI. Ã¯ Expertly plan and coordinate all aspects of meetings, conferences, and workshops.Ã¯ Degree in fine arts or computer graphics. Ã¯ Sound knowledge of conventional and electronic tools to produce work necessary to provide customers with essential products. Ã¯ Demonstrate good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with scientific and administrative staff as well as an ability to work as a team with others. Ã¯ Knowledge of current best practices and the ability to forecast and implement trends in design. Ã¯ Ability to accurately determine customer needs based on design briefs and implement solutions. Ã¯ Demonstrate extensive knowledge of design, typography for web and print (understands readability issues), color theory (print and web), web technologies, and universal standards of printing. Ã¯ Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of various software programs used to create web sites, publications and graphics. Ã¯ Able to work independently or as a team-member on special projects. Ã¯ Knowledge of photographic techniques and their application to graphic design. Ã¯ Extensive administrative experience. Ã¯ Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with scientific, management, technical and other staff. Ã¯ Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage multiple high priorities. Ã¯ Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to analyze data/problems and provide solutions Ã¯ Excellent organizational, group communication, verbal and writing skills; tact and diplomacy in all interactions. This a full time, 1 year contract position.
