|Student Learning Center Strategic Management and Administration Ã¯ Develops and implements operational policies, procedures and practices that are in alignment with unit objectives and goals. Collaborates with Director and other Associate Directors to ensure consistency and continuity of unity management and student service delivery. Ã¯ In collaboration with Director, establishes annual operational budget for academic programs. Reviews monthly and quarterly budget reports with program coordinators and make adjustments when necessary. Ã¯ Designs, implements, and directs assessment and evaluation of SLC services. |
SLC Administration Ã¯ Assumes lead in planning and coordinating key events, e.g. CalDay, Orientation Week, faculty and staff receptions; Research Symposium, staff retreats. Ã¯ Manages administration of payroll for SLC in coordination with Campus Shared Services. Outreach and Fundraising Ã¯ Establishes effective relationships on and off campus. Internally, forges effective relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators, working to closely enlist their support of and involvement in SLCÃs programs. Develops collaborative partnerships within and across divisional lines and strengthens ties to academic programs and key academic senate committees Ã¯ In collaboration with Director develops fund-raising plans and strategies for generating resources to support SLC programs. Participates in campus campaigns. Maximizes services to students by leveraging resources through partnerships with other student service units.
Employee Management - Supervises professional staff, adjunct instructors and students. Ã¯ Develops and revises job descriptions. Ã¯ Recruits and hires staff. Manages the search process, designs selection processes, and ensures reference checks are completed. Ã¯ Develops performance objectives and standards. Evaluates staff performance and writes annual appraisal. Provides staff coaching, productive and constructive feedback in a timely manner. Ã¯ Enhances staff performance by creating an individualized staff development plans, providing professional development opportunities. If needed implements corrective action in accordance with personnel policies and contracts. Ã¯ Identifies, designs, plans, and implements in-service training and professional development programs for the unit.
Program Management - Formulates operational and strategic objectives and goals for assigned academic support programs in SLC. Ã¯ Assesses student demographics, evaluates entering student academic profiles; examines academic support needs of Cal undergraduates. Ã¯ Design, implement and direct unit assessment and evaluation of assigned SLC programs Ã¯ Oversees the development and implementation of instructional and tutorial programs. Ã¯ Identify appropriate usage of instructional technology and evaluate its effectiveness in advancing unit goals. Work with program coordinators and assistant directors to incorporate instructional technology into their services. Ã¯ Prepares unit reports on the following areas: studentsÃ academic performance, utilization patterns of SLC service, and student persistence rates in University gateway courses.
Manages Program Directors in the following SLC areas: Ã¯ Academic Success and Strategic Learning; Ã¯ Interdisciplinary Resources for Transfer Students; Ã¯ Science; Ã¯ Social Science; and Ã¯ Undergraduate Course Facilitator Training & Resources.Ã¯ Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive academic service programs that meet the retention needs of undergraduates in a highly selective and competitive research institution. Ã¯ Demonstrated knowledge of learning center theory, learning theory; educational research; and discipline specific knowledge and experience designing and implementing learning and pedagogical models. Ã¯ Advanced knowledge in learning theories. Ã¯ Cognizant of specific learning styles, linguistic issues. Ã¯ Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution. Ã¯ Demonstrated knowledge of current policies and procedures established at the University, state, and federal levels that influence the campus and higher educational practices.
