The School of Education in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for Director of the Education Policy and Leadership (EPL) program. The appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence on August 28, 2017 with potential for subsequent annual reappointments. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. The position may commence as early as June 1, 2017 in a paid part-time capacity.
Applicants should hold a PhD, Ed.D or other terminal degree in education leadership, education policy, or another relevant field. Highly qualified applicants with all but dissertation in a field related to education will be considered. Preferred experience and knowledge include education leadership theory and practice, school and school-system reform, education program or policy implementation, and organizational change.
With a focus on education policy analysis and implementation, the EPL program is designed to support teachers and other professionals in improving student outcomes, whether as teacher leaders within schools (Teacher Leadership track) or as leaders in education organizations outside the school setting (Policy Studies track). In fall 2017, the School will launch an online version of the EPL program’s Policy Studies track. The Program Director administers both the ground and online EPL programs. Key responsibilities include assisting with the implementation of accreditation tasks, hiring and managing adjunct faculty, managing the student admissions process, providing leadership on marketing and recruitment plans, developing and maintaining relationships with external partners, and advising and mentoring program students, including on career pathways.
