The Senior Research Technology Specialist, with a focus on High Performance Computing (HPC) and data technology, is responsible for providing consulting, supporting faculty, students and staff utilizing research technology services including our HPC cluster, research software, research storage and research data management with a focus on large datasets. S/he will participate and contribute to the planning, development and management of research technology services at Tufts. Working closely with the Director of Research Technology, this position will assist in developing the vision and support for existing HPC solutions as well as evolving paradigms in big data.

Qualifications Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Science or Engineering and 5+ years of experience in research computing and research methodologies with a focus on large datasets ("Big Data").
Demonstrated experience in research computing and research methodologies and hands-on experience delivering and managing High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster solutions.
Strong background in data collection, data engineering, data analysis and data management with a focus on large datasets ("Big Data") and related hands-on experience.
Hands-on experience delivering, maintaining and supporting open source Big Data / Data Science solutions (Hadoop, Apache Spark and Pig).
Demonstrated experience with research computing software environments from both the command line and graphical user interface. This includes distributed, parallel, serial computing and cpu/gpu computing. Languages such as Python, C, Fortran, R. Commercial software such as Matlab, Mathematica, Maple, Fluent, Comsol, Ansys, Abaqus, Material Studio, Deform, SAS, STATA, SPSS.
Strong experience in compiling software, basic scripting, coding, etc. in support of high performance computing and cyberinfrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to build and engage an active intellectual community, including working collaboratively and building partnerships across disciplines.
Advanced analytical and innovative problem solving skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.
Strong track-record of exemplifying customer service excellence and accountability.
A strong interest in support, training, outreach and facilitation, and a hunger for innovation. Preferred Qualifications:
A preferred candidate should have an engineering, science or mathematics undergraduate degree (e.g. B.S) with additional graduate training or degrees (e.g. M.S.) with a research focus. Such areas of study include, but are not limited to: Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), Computer Information Systems (CIS), Engineering or related fields, etc.
The ability to work on both user support/consulting and projects/planning is necessary.
Candidates should feel comfortable directly interacting with faculty, students and staff.
Familiarity and experience with resources at private or public sector HPC research computing environments, national centers or XSEDE (eXtreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment) beneficial.
Understanding of and experience with research computing and large data sets from both an architecture perspective as well as daily usage, support and application level knowledge.
Knowledge of the continuum of research computing and scalability from desktop to HPC to cloud and grid solutions with a focus on large datasets. Special Work Schedule Requirements: Occasional evening or weekend work, as well as the ability to participate in a 24x7 on call rotation for major incident support activities.
