Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Donor Relations, the Assistant Director is primarily responsible for consolidating efforts to provide personalized stewardship and recognition for the College's top donors. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Donor Relations to design, implement, and manage comprehensive, strategic programs and processes that will foster and sustain long-term, meaningful relations between the College and its donors. These programs will acknowledge, recognize and communicate the impact made by donors at all levels of giving, with special emphasis on Leadership and Principal Gift donors. This individual will play a significant role in the success of our team and program; and as such, will serve as a highly valued member. The Assistant Director will take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
- Manage Annual Stewardship Program for the College's Top Donors. Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), Senior Philanthropic Advisor and Director of International Giving, Director of Leadership Giving, and Director of Donor Relations to identify opportunities to steward the College's most generous donors and to strategically time all reporting, engagements, and events. Manage stewardship activities for the members of the Founders Society, the donor recognition society for the College's $1 million + donors, and implement a variety of benefits, communications, and recognition opportunities associated with the Founders Society. Track and coordinate efforts of individual frontline fundraiser/donor relations teams, and serve as a donor relations liaison. Prepare substantive reports to donors that demonstrate the impact of their gift, and partner with faculty, staff, and academic departments across campus to insure that endowment income spending is timely and in accordance with donor intent. Coordinate recognition activities for principal and leadership giving donors, board members and other VIPs as assigned. Responsibilities include coordinating special events, managing publicity, and ensuring appropriate and personalized recognition in line with donor preferences.
- Serve as Donor Relations Communications Project Manager. Partner with Donor Relations team members and the College's Office of Communications, freelance writers and designers on the creation of stewardship reports, recognition materials, and annual updates of gift acknowledgment letters. Develop a calendar for efficient production of annual reports to effectively leverage stewardship efforts across Advancement. Identify opportunities to re-purpose existing materials and lead creation of new materials. Create impact reports for donors to building and capital projects. Draft gift agreements and proposals in collaboration with gift officers, the Director of Donor Relations, the Controller's Office, and the Director of Advancement Operations.
- Plan and execute strategic Donor Events. Assist Director of Donor Relations in planning campaign and recognition events, on- and off-campus, that honor alumni, parents, friends, and other supporters of the College. Manage all related event logistics and event budget. Assist the Director of Donor Relations with planning all aspects of ground-breaking and building dedications.
- Other Donor Relations Responsibilities: Maintain a small portfolio of Donor Relations assigned donors and visit these donors, as schedule allows. Liaise with the Director of Gift Planning and the Director of the Annual Fund to develop creative stewardship opportunities and programmatic stewardship strategies. Liaise with other campus partners as needed and directed.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Three to five years of related experience in advancement
- Excellent organizational, project management, interpersonal, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills, with a personal capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment, to be both self-reliant and independent yet also a team player and highly collegial and collaborative
- Demonstrated expertise using relational databases (preferably MS Access) and reporting software
- Excellent skills in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and web-based interfaces. Ability to learn new software programs
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact
- Attention to detail
- Strong time management skills and effective, efficient decision-making skills
- Occasional evening and weekend work is required, as per the nature of Donor Relations work
- Cultural competence and the ability to excel in a diverse environment
- Advanced degree
- Professional experience in higher education, donor relations, or an academic or comparable non-profit organization
- Fundraising experience
- Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague (Datatel)
