Job Summary: The Community Organizer will work with the organizing and advocacy team in advancing the organization’s comprehensive community organizing strategy and efforts to build power for Little Village residents by:
- Building relationships
- Engaging leaders in key coalitions
- Recruiting, developing, activating and tracking organizational members
- Build, improve, and lead in outreach and turnout strategies
Reports to: Senior Community Organizer
Accountable to: Associate Director
Communicates with: team members of health, immigration, education and violence prevention teams.
Informs: other team members.
Duties and Responsibilities
- 1. Building relationships:
a. Build relationships with current and emerging Little Village leaders and members, and identify self-interest and issue areas.
b. Engage in door knocking, one on ones, and other methods of building connections with Little Village community members.
2. Engaging leaders in key coalitions:
a. Develop relationships with organizing partners and explore collaborative opportunities with strategic allies and current/potential collaborators;
b. Engage members in coalitions whose work and campaigns have the most potential for engaging and building our base, and whose issues best serve the needs of the community.
c. Mobilize coalitions/networks when an issue area aligns to their interest.
3. Recruiting, developing, activating and tracking organizational members:
a. Identify, recruit, track and develop Enlace Chicago members and leaders;
b. With an internal team, collaborate on the Leadership Academy trainings for emerging Little Village leaders;
c. Ensure that action teams and/or community meetings are happening regularly and facilitating action when needed.
d. Work to engage members and leaders for actions and organization-wide events;
e. Manage member data tracking and communications;
4. Build, improve, and lead in outreach and turnout strategies:
a. Provide guidance based on your experience and strengths to other members of the organizing and advocacy team;
