The Langley School, a PS-8 independent school in McLean, Virginia, seeks a middle school language arts teacher beginning in August 2017. Our middle school teachers focus on the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of each child to create a nurturing and stimulating environment in which to learn. Faculty work collaboratively to create and implement inquiry-based, integrated units of study as they strive to meet the needs of every child, every day. Middle school language arts teachers also work closely with the school's learning resource team to support students who qualify for learning support. In addition to providing instruction in core content areas to students, middle school head teachers serve as advisors to mixed-age advisory groupings. Langley middle school teachers participate in extended trips as part of the students' middle school experience and are encouraged to coach if they have an interest and/or expertise in a particular sport.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, previous middle school teaching experience, strong background in English and language arts, excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfort with integrating technology into the curriculum, interest in collaborating with colleagues, commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment, and a passion for working with children required.
