ABOUT THE POSITION:
As the school’s most senior academic and school culture leader, the Principal is responsible for managing all policies and programming that ensures a learning environment consistent with the college preparatory and public policy-infused curricula missions of Chavez Schools. The Principal collaborates and cooperates with key Home Office personnel, leveraging subject-matter expertise to maximize the effectiveness of school programming. The Principal reports to the CEO of Chavez Schools.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Scholar Achievement • Monitors the effectiveness of school programs and their impact on scholar learning • Works with Home Office staff to ensure that teachers are implementing a rigorous curriculum for student learning. • Obsessively monitors student growth and holds effective leadership team meetings to review data, make plans for follow-up, and track implementation of plans. • Holds exceptionally high expectations for teachers and provides quality, effective professional learning to drive student achievement
School Culture • Promotes a strong school culture and effectively manages school team towards the implementation of a consistent culture that focused on student learning • Establishes effective lines of communication with teachers and among scholars • Fosters shared beliefs and a sense of community and cooperation • Sets and adheres to operating procedures and routines • Continuously monitors the implementation of school behavior model and provides targeted intervention immediately when required
Management • Provides substantive feedback relative to improving teacher practice • Plans and facilitates effective leadership team meetings which focus on student outcomes and plans for support • Conducts regular walkthroughs with leadership team and home office to ensure students are receiving the highest quality instruction and that school culture is conducive to student learning. • Drives school team towards ambitious goals and meets quantitative goals for school achievement • Effectively coaches and manages staff to constantly ensure that scholars are receiving the highest quality instruction
Administrative/Compliance and Reporting • Ensures regulatory, Chavez and individual school requirements, policies and practices are adhered to consistently • Manages school team to ensure all deliverables are timely, accurate, and aligned with Home Office staff
Personal Leadership • Consummate professional who models the flexible thinking, openness to feedback, and humility required to move student learning. • Establishes clear goals for growth and maintains those goals as the priority. • Effectively manages time to ensure that highest priority work is accomplished in service of student achievement • Manages change, understanding the implications and adjusting leadership voice and behavior accordingly • Serves as exemplar of school culture • Values and effectively manages a diverse team
Family and Stakeholder Engagement • Collaborates with leadership team to ensure regular and effective communication with families • Ensures that family voice is heard and valued through an effective PTA • Creates an school environment that welcomes families and external partners and establishes clear points of contact within the organization • Garners support for the school through excellent communication and community building with families and external partners • Effectively communicates with external partners and families to ensure high scholar attendance and enrollment
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS Candidates will have the following qualifications, skills, and attributes: • Minimum of 2 years as an effective Assistant Principal in an urban school community as evidenced by teacher and scholar growth and achievement data as well as personal performance data • Minimum of 4 years’ demonstrated success as an effective classroom teacher and/or teacher leader in an urban school community • Substantive experience with data and intervention programming\ • Substantive school leadership coursework • Solid understanding of the developmental and social nuances of children in grades 6-8/9-12 • Master’s degree in Education Administration or related coursework • Demonstrated success using data to drive programming • Believes that all students can achieve at the highest levels with no excuses • Ability to effectively analyze school data to improve student and staff achievement • Ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making • Is a strategic thinker and proactive problem-solver • Exemplifies the highest ethical standards • Works independently with little direct supervision and as part of a team • Ability to work productively with diverse populations, teachers, parents, board members, and community members, including demonstrated expertise in building and maintaining effective working relationships; • At least 4 years of relevant experience preferred • Citizenship, residency of work VISA in United States required
