|Requires Bachelor of Science in health physics or related science; minimum of 3 to 5 years radiation safety experience that includes conducting comprehensive radiation laboratory safety analysis in a university or research environment (i.e. Broad scope type license experience); additional instructional experience desirable. Minimum of 2 years laser safety experience that includes conducting comprehensive laser laboratory safety analysis in a university or research environment. Strong knowledge of regulations and best management practices for academic ionizing & non-ionizing radiation use. Must be able to pass an FBI criminal background investigation. Must have strong technical writing skills. Requires working knowledge of NRC, DOT, applicable Agreement State, DLS, EPA, and DEP regulations.|
Proven ability to successfully manage complex programs; demonstration of the skills necessary to successfully initiate, plan, execute and close complex projects and effectively lead project teams that include senior management staff.
Technological Skills Required
Proficiency and experience in complex database management systems desired. Proficiency and experience with full Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and presentation software required. Working knowledge of Windows operating system and network concepts is required. Must be able to use a smartphone and iPad, and have familiarity with email, voice mail, and emergency response procedures and protocols.
Strong knowledge of regulations and best management practices for academic radioactive material, non-ionizing radiation, and radiation generating device use required. Mandatory participation in EH&S Emergency Response program as a cross-trained EH&S staff member; required to carry a cell phone and respond to emergencies during non-business hours on an occasional and as-needed basis.
Must have sufficient mobility, dexterity, and endurance to perform emergency response activities and field visits and frequently walk up/down stairs. Must be capable of using personal protective equipment and monitoring equipment and entering areas housing research animals, biological agents, or chemicals. Must be able to access any area of the University to perform inspections, job safety assessments, emergency response, etc.
Masters of Science is preferred. Laboratory safety analysis in a university setting is preferred
Laser Safety Officer Certification strongly preferred
