The South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Music Education, beginning in August 2017. Anderson University is an innovative, entrepreneurial, premier comprehensive, liberal arts institution affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Candidates with a strong Christian value system, lifestyle, and commitment to the integration of faith and learning are encouraged to apply. Both rank and salary are commensurate with experience.
Anderson University recognizes three paths for faculty employment: annual appointment, professional path, and tenure track. Faculty hired for annual appointment are evaluated on mission fit, and teaching and learning. They begin employment at the rank of instructor with the opportunity to promote to senior lecturer. Faculty in the Professional Path focus on teaching and learning and are evaluated on mission fit, teaching and learning, and service; and they are able to promote through professorial ranks. After six years of exemplary service, faculty on the Professional Path become eligible for multi-year contracts. Faculty on tenure track focus initially on teaching and learning, but they are evaluated on mission fit, teaching and learning, service, and scholarship. Tenure-track faculty promote through professorial ranks and are eligible for tenure status in year six.
Expectations include gifted teaching, dynamic leadership, setting ambitious program goals, developing strong partnerships with public and private school communities, maintaining an active research/creative activity agenda, and recruiting exceptional music education students. Specific responsibilities include teaching courses in graduate and undergraduate music education, coordinating music education activities and programs, supervising field experiences, conducting a choral ensemble, and involvement in faculty service and committee work. The position includes additional undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities as determined by qualifications, institutional needs, and preference.
Qualifications: An earned doctorate in music education is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of teaching excellence and leadership in PreK-12 choral music, and evidence of productive research/creative activity. Significant graduate and undergraduate teaching experience is highly desirable, and at least three years of PreK-12 teaching experience is required. Successful experience in teaching PreK-12 general music and online music courses is also preferred.
