Full/Part Time Full-Time
Performs complex reviews and inspections for new construction and renovation projects that require a high degree of technical knowledge, fire and building code expertise, and knowledge of University standards. Performs other duties as assigned.
40% - Essential - Fire and Life Safety Plan Review:
Conducts comprehensive fire and life safety plan reviews of projects. Individual must have a strong fire service background to include knowledge/experience or ability to read plans, and interpret applicable codes and standards. Must have a thorough knowledge of fire department organizations, fire protection equipment, fire apparatus access, water supply, hydrants, fire pumps, standpipes, fire sprinkler systems, Hazardous Materials, fire alarm systems, commercial hoods systems, emergency lighting, emergency power, and special hazards to include the storage and handling of flammable/combustible liquids or gases. Must be familiar with all adopted codes, Laws, state fire marshal rules and regulations, NFPA standards and ICC codes.
40% - Essential - Inspection and Project Review:
Inspects construction site and fire protection system installation for compliance with approved plans. Performs inspections, investigations, surveys and evaluations to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations standards and minimum code on all projects both on and off campus. Reviews all construction and renovation projects as applicable to the University. Must have the ability to perform on site job inspections and communicate well with the General Contractor, owner, design team, and project managers. Documentation and timely follow-up must be conducted in an efficient matter.
20% - Essential - Project Coordination and Compliance:
Coordinates with A/E firms, project managers, Office of State Engineer, State Fire Marshal, SC Department of Health and Environmental Control, University building officials, CU Fire Department on all projects. Maintains certifications for plan examiner and fire inspector. Represents the Clemson University Fire Department and Facilities on construction projects.
A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience.

Supervises Work of Others - Supervises work of others and may offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments but does not have responsibility for making these decisions.

Education - High School or Equivalent
