Description The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal and Developmental Medicine aims to provide optimum state-of-the-art care for critically ill and recovering neonates and infants. We are dedicated to the School of Medicines mission of advancing and exploring innovative and novel biomedical, translational, and clinical research and education through the nurturing stimulation of interactions among basic and clinical scientists, clinicians, and educators throughout the School of Medicine and University, as well as with the private and public sectors. Through our integrated research, education, patient, and community outreach programs, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic medicine and patient care. A component of the Division is the California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC) Data Center in the Perinatal Epidemiology and Research Unit.
CPQCC has 130 member hospitals that care for over 90 percent of neonates requiring neonatal intensive care in California. CPQCC is committed to improving the quality of care to Californias mothers and our most vulnerable infants. An action arm of the California Association of Neonatologists and a regional member of the Vermont-Oxford Network, CPQCC thrives as a result of the commitment and input of its diverse stakeholders including the California Childrens Services and the California Division of Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health. Its highly effective perinatal outcomes reports and quality improvement activities have provided a national model for regional perinatal quality improvement.
We are seeking a full-time 1.0 FTE Biostatistician 2 to monitor the data integrity of the CPQCC Network Database for the CPQCC Data Center. This position will be responsible for coordinating the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of new initiatives and projects related to improving data accessibility and data interpretation of CPQCC members. The Biostatistician 2 will serve as an advisor and key participant in the design and implementation of data analyses and research projects. The individual will prepare data files and other relevant covariate data, manage data files and linkages to other datasets, carry out statistical analyses and design reports, draft and edit manuscripts for submission, and participate in the presentation of work at conferences. S/he will evaluate and implement software solutions for data compilation and management, maintaining relationships with researchers at other institutions on data related issues. This position will also train graduate assistants and other researchers on the use of data sets.
Develop and implement protocol for quality control.
Create analytic files with detailed documentation.
Select appropriate statistical tools for addressing a given research question.
Implement data analysis through statistical programming.
Present results for investigators using graphs and tables.
Summarize findings orally and in written form.
Participate in the preparation of papers for publication.
Consult with investigators on appropriate statistical approaches to data analyses; assist in study design and proposal development.
Mentor collaborators in areas of experimental design, quality control, and statistical analysis
Develop oral and written dissemination of findings for conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.
Oversee lower-level staff on issues related to quality control and creation of analysis files.

Qualifications DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in Biostatistics preferred.
Experience working with complex, large scale data sets, including data cleaning, security, selection of software, quality control, documentation and data reports.
5 to 10 years of experience in managing, analyzing, and reporting on large datasets desired.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics or related field and at least 3 years of experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Proficient in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA.
Skills in descriptive analysis, modeling of data, and graphic interfaces.
Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated excellence in at least one area of expertise, which may include coordinating studies; statistical methodology such as missing data, survival analysis, statistical genetics, or informatics; statistical computing; database design (e.g., expertise in RedCAP or MySQL); graphical techniques (e.g., expertise in Illustrator).
Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, seated work and use light/ fine grasping.
Occasionally stand, walk, and write by hand, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
