This position serves as support for all of the programs conducted at the Eastern Virginia AREC, with primary responsibility for purification and preparation of soybean and small grain seed for planting back in the next growing season and preparing and sending out grain samples for quality testing. The incumbent must function as a team member both in the field and in the seed lab in order to perform needed tasks and collect reliable and accurate data. They must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with people from various backgrounds.
Working knowledge of agricultural research techniques and procedures; Associates Degree in an agricultural discipline; Experience operating basic farm machinery; Mechanical ability to make repairs and perform basic machinery maintenance; Knowledge of plant diseases and pest identification or ability to learn; Valid driver's license; Computer literacy (use email, Word, Excel, etc.); Ability to follow instructions both written and oral.
B.S. in agronomy, crop science, or a related field, experience with agronomic crops, experience with agricultural research protocols.
