Programs and Services New Hope Community’s residential program provides a wide array of living options, ranging from a campus setting to integrated housing in traditional neighborhoods in the community. The housing staff provides individualized service delivery, including personal care, clinical support, recreational activities, and social development. Over 240 people currently call New Hope Community home, with services continuing to expand each year. In addition to housing, New Hope Community provides a variety of other programs and services. The day programs include on-campus classes in technology, fine arts, athletics, gardening and horseback riding, as well as the Without Walls program, which promotes educational experience within the greater Sullivan County and Hudson Valley community. These services are designed to be accessible to all participants, including those with dual diagnoses or challenging behaviors and the elderly or medically frail. The Supported Employment program is designed to help people become productive, employable citizens in the local community. It provides the skills necessary to retain employment, as well as assisting people with disabilities in gaining acceptance in society. Beyond enrichment, New Hope Community also provides Health Services, Clinical Services, Family Support, and Service Coordination, all of which come together to form a holistic approach to the care and happiness of its clients. Location New Hope Community is located in the Catskills, a large region in the southeastern portion of New York State. Situated approximately 100 miles north-northwest of NYC and 40 miles southwest of Albany, the Catskills occupy much or all of Greene, Delaware, Schoharie, Sullivan and Ulster counties. The area boasts major downhill ski and snowboard areas, numerous hiking trails, and options for kayaking, rafting and fly fishing, as well as many cultural and musical events, often located at the world renowned Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. The community has long been attractive to those seeking to indulge their love of the outdoors while still being an easy drive or train journey from New York City. Sullivan County is also experiencing a resurgence of economic development. For example, minutes from New Hope Community, Adelaar, with its 5 star world class casino, hotel and spa, fine dining, retail, golf and indoor water park, will cater to the family when it opens in 2018. THE POSITION The Vice President for Strategic Transformation and Programs is a new position created to lead and direct continual strategic and programmatic development across the organization.
With the complexities of delivering health and other residentially based services, coupled with changing state mandates, organizations need to be innovative in order to better serve the individuals. Working closely with the CEO, other members of the management team, the Board of Directors and the Strategic Planning Committee of the Board of Directors, the VP for Strategic Transformation and Programs will be tasked with spearheading an ongoing process to ensure that New Hope Community is poised to recognize and seize strategic opportunities to help New Hope Community continue to excel both in the delivery of services and in the creation of alternative income sources. Simultaneously, the organization needs to be prepared for anticipated and non-anticipated challenges.
Collaboration and partnerships are integral components of successful organizations. The Vice President will be a visible leader in the community representing New Hope Community in front of state funding agencies, foundations, elected leaders, media, and other nonprofit agencies. Innovation often requires partnerships, and so the Vice President will identify and leverage external resources to drive organizational, programmatic and financial development through collaboration. To support collaborations and other external responsibilities, a Marketing and Communications team reports into this position.
Residential services encompasses one of the largest program areas at New Hope Community with a staff of approximately 500 FTEs. The Vice President of Strategic Transformation and Programs, will be responsible for ensuring superior standards of support and service delivery; progressive service growth and sound business expansion; a positive reputation with stakeholder groups and ethical conduct throughout the organization.
Success for the Vice President will result in a variety of outcomes for New Hope Community, including but not limited to: a) Successfully leading the implementation of the 2017 strategic plan across the organization; b) Initiating new program models that better serve the individuals; c) Instituting a culture of innovation with board and management; d) Developing new programs that not only lead to income diversification but also innovation within the program areas; e) Establishing the organization as a thought leader in the I/DD sector; f) Being well represented and recognized at forums, discussions, etc., where decisions are made at county and state levels; g) Strengthening the organization’s recognition by individuals, corporations, and funders within and beyond the region; h) Further developing New Hope Community’s reputation as being the employer of choice in the region; and i) Ensuring the quality and expansion of existing residential programs.
This position reports directly to the CEO and is a member of the management team along with the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, Vice President of Clinical and Regulatory Operations, and Vice President of Philanthropy.
RESPONSIBILITIES Strategy • Drive the creation and implementation of strategic plans through engagement of management, staff, board members and many external stakeholders. • Ensure that the approved strategic plan is periodically refreshed in coordination with the Strategic Planning Committee of the Board of Directors. • Lead the efforts to strategically integrate all new state mandates and new business developments into the New Hope Community operating framework, including the assurance that the service delivery infrastructure can support future needs. Innovation • Create an organizational environment that reflects an absolute commitment to innovation and the continuing pursuit of quality improvement. • Provide leadership in developing new, diverse and sustainable revenue streams to provide the most reasonably secure operating platform for the New Hope Community of tomorrow. • Ensure New Hope Community is well positioned to capitalize on opportunities as well as being protected against the challenges within today’s ever-changing human services delivery model.
Communications and Community Relations • Ensure an effective communication program is developed and maintained to promote positive relationships with stakeholder groups (individuals supported, families, funders, state agencies, business partners, donors and the public at-large). • As a face of the organization, continually seek and cultivate relationships on behalf of New Hope Community that will enable programmatic expansion and innovation. • Work with leaders within all areas of government on systemic changes relevant to the sector. • Develop and leverage an ongoing marketing/communications, public relations and branding strategy. • Seek new opportunities for service growth both in the public and private sectors, strategic alliances and business opportunities to support the mission and vision of the organization.
Management • Directly supervise all residential, day programs, leisure and supported work programs and ensure the pursuit of best practices to optimize service delivery. • Build depth in the managerial and professional leadership structure to ensure ongoing stability throughout the department. • Motivate, evaluate and inspire staff by creating a collaborative, transparent and inclusive culture that allows for an open dialogue to address both the challenges and goals facing New Hope Community.
QUALIFICATIONS Professional • A well regarded professional who has a demonstrated background in this human services sector and who is known to be, and can demonstrate high strategic and entrepreneurially thinking supported by precision execution of all plans. • Demonstrated success in leadership role(s) managing complex organization(s) in this highly regulated human services sector. • An understanding and interest in working with a rural-based service provider. • Financial acumen, business, management and forecasting skills – ability to link strategic and operational goals to fiscal realities and program priorities. • Reputation as a team builder with demonstrated success leading, motivating and collaborating with a large group of professional and direct service staff. • Ability to articulate New Hope Community’s message to a broad range of constituents and the general public.
